Search And Rescue Association (SARA) is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteer resources from throughout the New England region. Founded out of the search for Sarah Pryor in Wayland, Massachusetts in October of 1985, SARA has grown into an umbrella organization, comprised of both organizational as well as individual members, that assists local and state authorities in coordinating all search efforts.

SARA has been in existence since 1985.  After the search for Sarah Pryor, several civilian volunteers realized that there was a need to coordinate the volunteers who show up to participate in a search. They sought out other volunteers and resources and asked them to join in setting up a central means for anyone to contact when they are aware of a missing person.

Since this time SARA has been involved in hundreds of searches of all kinds. From the missing five year old to the elderly "berry picker", SARA has been there.

SARA has evolved into an umbrella group, made up of both individual members as well as resource organizations. All of SARA's resources have attended various search and rescue courses. In addition all resources attend continuing specialty courses in their own areas of expertise. These areas range from medical to technical rescue...and from different types of specialty search to search management.

And now SARA has evolved again to the Internet. Offering services world wide to members of the SAR community as well as to those involved in a missing person situation.
