Toronto ON -- A 13-year-old girl is at the centre of a missing person's investigation in the city's east end.

Carissa Balkissoon was last seen near 4100 Lawrence Ave. E., west of Kingston Rd., at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, an early morning Toronto Police press release said Thursday.

The teen was described as brown, 5-foot-1, 120 pounds, with long, black hair. She was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt and blue jeans with a "$" belt buckle, police said.

"Police are concerned for her safety," the press release said.
