Body Of Missing Woman Found In Pond

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. -- The body of a Maine woman missing since Saturday has been found, investigators said Wednesday.

Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said that the body of Krista Dittmeyer, 20, was found in Duck Pond at Cranmore Mountain. Young said investigators are treating it as a suspicious death.

Dittmeyer's car was found running in a North Conway parking lot Saturday with her 14-month-old child inside.

Young said Dittmeyer's body is being taken to the medical examiner, who will perform an autopsy. Once the autopsy is complete, investigators hope to be able to announce the manner and cause of death.

Police blocked off the area around the pond area earlier Wednesday. The pond is a quarter-mile across the base of Cranmore Mountain from where Dittmeyer's car was found.

Police were actively searching the shallow snow-making pond. They expanded the scene and pushed media back from the area at about 9 a.m.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a hearse rolled onto the property and traveled back to the area of the pond. It left about 10 minutes later.

The pond is near a child care center at the base of the mountain. It is not the same pond that was drained a couple of days ago. That retaining pond was near the parking lot where Dittmeyer's car was found.
